Grant Writing for Communities

Grant writing is a strategic tool for communities seeking funds to improve infrastructure, services, and quality of life. Effective grant writing combines clear project definition, strong local partnerships, realistic budgets, measurable outcomes, and persuasive storytelling that aligns project goals with funder priorities.

Why communities pursue grants…

  • Access to capital for projects that local tax bases or operating budgets cannot cover (e.g., water/sewer upgrades, broadband, community centers).

  • Opportunity to pilot innovative programs with external funding and evaluate results.

  • Capacity building: grant-funded technical assistance can strengthen local governance, planning, and service delivery.

Core components of successful community grant proposals.

Past Projects

Lake Ozark Roadside Park

I was contacted by the City of Lake Ozark to prepare and submit a successful Non-Playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grant Application through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Village of Stoutland Demolition Project

Jonsie, LLC provided comprehensive grant writing and grant administration services for the Village of Stoutland’s CDBG Demolition Project.

Jonsie LLC, was behind the successful completion of the Ballparks National Field Expansion in Macks Creek, Missouri!

Through an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant, funding was secured to support the expansion of Ballparks National with three new fields, increasing tournament capacity and bringing even more visitors to the Lake of the Ozarks region.

Project fully funded and completed!

Fields ready for play as of April 1, 2026!

Increased tournament and visitor capacity!

New opportunities for local tourism and businesses!

The Economic Impact

The completed expansion is expected to generate significant economic activity throughout the region, including:

  • $50,000–$90,000 in lodging revenue during a strong tournament weekend

  • $40,000–$80,000 in off-site dining

  • $15,000–$40,000 in other local spending

  • $105,000–$210,000 in combined local economic impact per strong weekend

Over a full season, projected facility revenue is approximately $700,000–$1.1 million, with the potential for $2–$4 million in incremental local visitor spending.

This project was more than an expansion—it was an investment in tourism, local businesses, jobs, and the continued growth of the Lake of the Ozarks!
